Poems in an Exhibition is an anthology of poems—several of them award- winning—inspired directly by paintings, photographs, pieces of art and, in one instance, a performer.
This unique collection, curated by Oxford’s own journalist-author-poet Sylvia Vetta, features 12 poets (and 2 artists), from a prize-winning teenage schoolgirl to a nonagenarian mathematical physicist. Yet they have one thing in common: being inspired by a strong visual image as a stimulus to mark the words on the page.
With full-colour reproductions of classic and contemporary paintings and photographs, this book is published to raise awareness for the human rights charity Standing Voice—currently tackling the social exclusion of people with albinism in Tanzania and wider East Africa.
All proceeds from direct sales of this poetry anthology will go to maintain the art summer school Standing Voice run on the island of Ukerewe in their training centre.
